~ the AC saga - part 2 ~

29 June 1999

so, today is the day we decided to get the AC. for real.

we (ari and i) got off the train, and immediately head off to my car. so we drove down to Circuit City… again.

the last time we were there, we saw this cheap AC, only $161. the box wasn’t so big either, so we thought we wouldn’t have trouble carrying it up to my apartment.

when we got to Circuit City, we saw no line in front of the store. *phew*. and there were about 50 AC boxes stacking up on the main entrance. so, we went in and headed towards the AC section where the displays are. it’s still a bit crowded, so we took time looking around and reading the specs.

while reading, we overheard the sales lady saying there is no AC left in the store. they are all sold out.

huh? whaddaya mean? we saw the stacks of AC boxes in front of the stores, and now you’re trying to tell me there is no AC left?!? we’re not blind…!

believe me, i wasn’t the one who said that… there were many more customers complaining about the lack of AC in the store. some people were grumbling, some people tried to be *really* nice to the sales person, and asking the same question (are you sure there is no AC left? could you re-check it for us?) again and again… and there we were, stunned and dissapointed.

so, i could only frown while walking back towards the door….. BUT!

yup, there is a BUT! we (again) overheard a different salesman talking to a customer about selling an AC. we immediately jumped in to the conversation, and we found out, there was a more expensive ($150 more!!) AC type that is still available. and there is only 5 of them left…. 5!

it was like a race. the fight between longing of coolness and going broke was going through my head for about 30 seconds. it was a short fight, thanks to the hero, American Express credit card. don’t blame me, i was sweaty and desperate.

so, about an hour later, after flexing our muscles, carrying and installing the AC… ari, i and bebe (my bunny) are cool and happy….
