~ bunny + lion masks ~

27 March 2010

so, as we promised aina, today we continued with the two other masks: a rabbit for me and a lion for ari.

first we cut all the necessary pieces for the bunny mask: long ears and snout.

assembling rabbit

instead of using the cup for the snout, we used another plate and created a shallow cone out of it. just for the fun of it, we cut the bottom of the snout to form two bunny teeth.

here is aina sporting the glued but unpainted bunny mask.

uncolored rabbit + making lion hair

while ari and aina painted the bunny, i assembled and glued the lion hair into the piece. the lion hair was made out of golden brown acrylic yarn that was just lying around in my stash.

painting

aina chose baby blue for the bunny, even though i have told her before that bunnies are not blue. this has probably got something to do with her blue bunny costume.

assembling lion

while waiting for everything to get dry, we glued the lion together. the lion consists of the plate face, two ears that are just like the pig’s ears but with rounded edges, and the snout shaped exactly like the rabbit. so, in a way, the lion was the combination of a pig and a rabbit… anyways, after the glue had dried, the lion was painted.

snip snip

the lion’s hair was glued into a separate piece, which is basically a 2cm outer circumference of the plate. this is to prevent the glued yarns from sticking to our foreheads when we wear the mask.

putting the hair together

after the lion mask had dried and the face details were drawn, the hair piece was glued to the back of the face plate.

and that’s it. all the masks are done!

all masks are done!

oh, did you know these sorta match with our Chinese zodiacs? aina is a pig, i’m a rabbit, ari is a tiger. but a lion is more fun to make than a tiger, so we cheated… peace!

all masks are done!
