~ piggy mask ~

26 March 2010

for the past few days, aina has been asking for a pig mask. “let’s make a pig mask!”, which we hear everyday from her.

so tonight we did.

it’s a pretty standard mask… and aina’s request (pig) is even easier. we use paper plate and cup, scissors, glue, black marker and pink paint.

we then cut the cup so that it would look somewhat like pig snout. cut the edge of it in a rotating form so that it can easily glued to the plate.

then, cut the eye hole. make sure that they are aligned with the kid’s eyes. our first cut was too narrow, so we had to make the hole larger on the sides. add ears — you can use extra plate or use the leftover from the snout cup. don’t forget to make holes on the side of the mask for attaching rubberband/headband.

then, it’s painting time. aina insisted that she wants to do it herself. so, fine. pigs are rather easy to paint anyway… it’s just flat pink.

the paint ended up uneven, but she was very happy with the result nonetheless.

for her, the grueling time is the wait-to-dry time… she just couldn’t wait to wear it! . she would pick it up every minute and say, “binggi! bubu! look… it’s already dry!” and pink paint will be all over her hand.

when it’s finally dry, ari drew the nose and outline the eye holes. aina wanted to do it herself but gave up after we told her that it’s ari’s turn, because she had done the painting.

we then attach two rubberbands on the sides to go on aina’s ears. and VIOLA!

OINK!

the pig is ready… she kept snorting all night under that mask. oink, oink!

there are two more masks to go: a rabbit for me and a lion for ari. but those had to wait for tomorrow, because we had to cook for dinner right after the pig was done.
