~ potty training - day 2 ~
so, the second day started out rather nerve-wrecking… because aina seemed to hold her pee. after her first pee in the morning, she went for hours without peeing. even after finishing a bottle of milk and having her breakfast (6 quail eggs) with a drink. i was very nervous, until…
around 11:15am, she told me that she wanted to pee. so i put her on the potty, hoping that she will break her pee-fasting. she sat there for about 30 seconds, then she got up, walked to the stairs, and… pooped. all over the stairs. ack!
still no pee, though.
after the clean up, we went back downstairs and aina told me that she wanted to pee (again). not long after she sat down on the potty, she yelled, “i can do it! i can do it!”… at 11:30am, she peed. ari and i danced in relief… kissed her on the cheeks and were very happy that she finally peed.
after that, she helped me cook lunch and we had lunch together. after lunch, she sat on her potty again, but none came out. we played at the porch while installing my new bicycle saddle (that’s a different entry all together). she still said that she didn’t feel like peeing. and no accidents.
i sat her on the potty again right before nap time. still nothing. oh well. i don’t know whether i should be worry or not… whether it’s a good thing that she has much less accidents and that’s a sign that she has gotten better at managing her pee… OR she’s holding her pee, and it’s a bad thing.
anyways, the first accident (besides the poop thing in the morning) happened 10 minutes after she woke up from her nap. her diaper was dry, so i put on the training panties. she was playing with ari, kept refusing to sit on the potty, and finally she let out right next to her bed. funny that after getting all upset over accidents yesterday, this time, i felt kinda relieved to see it. i guess, it confirms that aina didn’t hold her pee just because she is too scared to accidentally pee outside her potty…
after that, we went out cycling… so i put her on a diaper and we went out. not long after dinner, we headed home. as soon as we reached home, aina told me that she wanted to pee. i took off her diaper (which was dry again), sat her on the potty, and within a minute, she peed!! whoa! more dancing for me and ari… more kisses for aina!
that was her last pee of the day. after her night milk, she didn’t pee. after tooth-brushing, she didn’t pee either. she remained dry until i put on the diaper and sang the lullabye to sleep.
in conclusion, she peed 4 times today. each time, she peed a lot — in contrast to yesterday’s “pee often in smaller amount, resulting in many accidents”. one poop accident, and one pee accident. the rest of the day, she remained dry.
so, does this mean the potty program went well on the second day? or does this mean i have taught my daughter to hold her pee and made her unhealthy?

I think it works well, she knows what you expect her to do, just be patient, she needs some more days. Don’t worry, she won’t hold her pee, unless you make her scared when there is an accident.
yeah, after today, i realized that it actually worked… sooo happy! she actually “gets” the idea of peeing on the potty, instead of on the diaper. and now she can let us know BEFORE she pees. less and less accident lately, woohoo!
She’s just becoming aware of the feelings that come before she has to pee, and becoming aware that she can control if she lets it out or not. She’s never had a reason to pay attention to that before… so thats a good thing!
you’re right, meegs… i think she purposely control it. which is awesome! the training went very well… i’ve been dreading to start this potty training thing, thinking it would be long-winded and exhausting. it turned out to be pretty quick and less painful that i imagined :)
have you heard of pull-ups (http://www.pull-ups.com/na/cool_alert.aspx)? they’re a kind of diapers that kids can use as if they were panties. i don’t have a kid, but it seems like maybe it could help :)
hello, ana. yep, we’ve been using it has her diaper for the past year. it works for teaching her how to wear panties. unfortunately, it doesn’t work for teaching her going to bathroom for potty :)
