~ Street Style Award ~

17 December 2004

tonight is my first time going to Zouk. a few of ari’s friends were nominated in the 2004 Streetstyle Awards - Singapore, and we came to support them (and have a few drinks, of course).

oww, what a bad picture! pardon me, my camera phone sucks…

too bad, we forgot to take some money, so we could only afford a bottle of beer. how sad…

anyways, i’m surprised that the award show doesn’t have any website… i’ve been googling for half an hour, and come up with nothing. it’s weird, especially since one of the nominee (and the grand winner) is Phunk Studio

another thing that i’m surprised is the fact that Street Style actually exist in Singapore. with the government’s tight (or ridiculously tight) regulation, i didn’t think street art would even exist, not to mention grow…

taken from Zouk’s website:

The Streetstyle Awards
The Awards will honor young Singaporean who have made a difference in the fields of visual arts, fashion, music and sports. Winners will be rewarded for keeping true to their passion, achieving what theey set forth to do, taking our own street culture forward and giving a whole new meaning to street style!
One of the nominee of the Visual Arts category is a a grafitti artist. so that you know, graffiti is very much illegal in Singapore, punishable by caning… ouch! so, when the reel of the graffiti artist was played, it doesn’t show any of his graffiti works. instead, we see his canvas paintings, again and again… i wonder if he has done any graffiti at all. well, maybe not in the walls of Singapore… who knows.

another thing that makes me chuckle is on the Sports category… the nominees are: a wake boarder, a kite surfer, a breakdancer and a team of ultimate frisbee…. hey, where are the icon of streetstyle, THE skateboarders!? …ah, i forgot. skateboarding is illegal in Singapore… nevermind, then…

maybe the awards really “give a whole new meaning to street style”

it’s really bother me when i found out that skateboarding is illegal in the singapore’s street. of course there are some skateboarding park but c’mon!

but your conclusion is kinda had a funny ring to it. “Singapore Street Style”, yeah right =P
