~ Great Eastern Women’s Run 2013 ~

great eastern women's run 2013

i was woken up with sounds of rolling thunder this morning… oh no, please don’t rain. or light rain is fine, but please no thunder storm… it’s Great Eastern Women’s Run today, and i really want to run the 10k race!

i got dressed as fast as i could and immediately called a cab. calling cabs in the rain is notoriously impossible here in Singapore, so i want to get the cab before it started raining.

it was drizzing when i got into the cab, but in orchard, it was pouring cats and dogs. we could hardly see anything from the windshield…

i had no idea how it happened, but when i got to the Float @ Marina, which is basically about 3-4km away from orchard, it was dry… windy, but dry. amazing…

i got to the Race Village early, so there were hardly anyone there. the green area above would be filled with people in the next few hours.

i waited in the Breakfast area for the rest of the 10k Mama Runners SG. Shinta and Farah, who were running 21k, has already left running. after all of us arrived, we walked slowly to the start line… and surprisingly, we got to the second wave :)

at the start line!

the plan was to follow the 1:10 pacers (i don’t think i can follow the 1:00 pacers…) all the way to the finish line. my goal was pretty low… i’m happy enough to finish before 1:12, which was my timing for first ever 10k race almost 2 years ago. at least i would be better than when i just started :P

and thanks to the pacers, i did a little more than just that… i ran 1:05:45, which is 40 seconds slower than my last GEWR (2012). since my personal best for 10k was GEWR 2012 (1:05:05), this means i’m only 40 seconds slower than the time before my injury… so this means, i’m back to where i was a year ago… right?

ah, whatever… anyways, i’m happy with the result :)

rain or shine, #GEWR2013! love the weather, although i wished i could break my PB... oh well.

at the finish line, the rain just started to pour.

this time, aina and ari stayed at home. that was a good decision, though, because as soon as we got to the finish line, the rain started to pour hard. and everything was wet.

despite all the rain, GEWR is still my favorite race, though. this year, they upped the competition by providing free pictures from finisherpix.com. free! you know how expensive race pictures could be, right? sometimes, more expensive than the race itself… but GEWR gave them all for free! big hurrah for them!

i also met up a few new friends in this race… there is Dessy and Siska (Siska came from Battam for this race). and Maggie and Farah, both from Malaysia, running 21k.

and Adi’s friends, including Dora, an Indo Runners who came from Jakarta to run a 10k.

meeting up with Adi and friends

once again, like last year, i hope i will be able to run 21k for GEWR 2014… and unlike last year, please no more sickness and injuries. amin.

Hello there:) I hope you wouldn’t mind if i use your pictures of the race village and the crowd at the starting line in my report of the GEWR 2013?
