~ koda to aina ~

03 July 2007

many people asked us on how koda behave after the aina’s arrival. we think, koda is doing great.

hey, what's in there?

on the first day, koda was too excited to see me (i’ve been away for 5 days, and koda is very close to me) to notice aina right away. two hours after the arrival, she then started to sniff the pram and tried to lick aina’s feet. now, she’s gotten curious of the little girl.

for the next seven days, koda followed us around the house, waiting for a chance to play with aina. koda would sleep underneath the pram, waiting for the baby to wake up. and when the baby woke up, koda would run around the pram and make sound, letting us know that the baby has awaken. sometimes, she would bring her red ball along while trying to sniff the baby. koda got excited whenever i breastfed, or when we needed to change aina’s nappy, or when aina’s taking a bath… basically, koda got excited whenever we do things that involve aina. it seems that she wanted to help, too.

watching the little sister

i found it pretty amazing that koda would stay by our side 24-hours a day. prior to aina’s birth, there were times when koda would rather stay away from us. for example, at night, right before we go to bed, koda would be in our bedroom with us. but after about 10 to 15 minutes, she would leave and sleep downstairs. but after aina’s arrival, koda stayed in our room the whole night, sleeping right next to the crib.

another good thing is that aina’s cry doesn’t seem to bother koda at all. koda can easily sleep during the long hour of aina’s crying. thank god, because aina’s wailings are pretty deafening.

however, on aina’s second week at home, the novelty seems to have worn out. koda still gets excited with nappy changing and bath time, but breastfeeding is a bore to her. rather than watching me feeding aina, she’d hang out at the door, watching people go by… and she doesn’t stay in our room all night anymore. she sleeps downstairs most of the time, although every morning, she will come back and sleep on our bed. this is her habit prior to aina’s birth.

koda usually gets excited whenever we have a guest. she will try her best to get attention from the guest. maybe, on the first week, koda thinks aina is a guest. but now, she has realized that aina stays here for good and she has plenty of time to get her attention.
