~ swimming pet peeves ~

27 June 2006

when we went to do our daily swimming — which hasn’t been so daily lately, thanks to our laziness — the pool was extra crowded. well, not exactly crowded, but for some reason, today, people just didn’t swim straight in their lanes… which is one of my biggest pet peeves.

at one corner, there were a bunch of kids with their coach, having their swimming lesson. and since these kids couldn’t swim far, they swam perpendicular to the lanes, which was annoying to us who are using the lane to swim laps. it made me wonder why they didn’t use the two reserved lanes for coaching.

to regulate the swimming activities, the pool administration has reserved two lanes nearest to the exit for childrens swimming lessons. this way, the other eight lanes can be used for lap swimming.

but maybe this swimming coach was not a certified swimming coach from the pool? or maybe he didn’t pay something so he couldn’t use the reserved lanes? i don’t know. but in any case, i didn’t want to use that corner because i will have to avoid collisions with the kids everytime i pass through.

but then, even after choosing the empty lane on the other side of the pool, people still kept passing through our lanes… what the hell? there were these two teens who mostly played and splashed around in the pool. and they’re standing around on MY end of the lane. why can’t they just go to the shallow pool of they are not doing lap swimming!? and then, there is this old man, who literally swims diagonally…. he starts from the first lane, and ends on the third or fourth lane. actually, make it one and a half old man, because the other old man, who originally swam back and forth on his lane, started going in all different directions towards the end of our swimming session. he’s probably trying to avoid collision with that other man — the diagonal swimmer.

gah, what an annoying day for swimming…
