~ G5 in comma ~
we woke up late, as usual, and went straight to our computer. after about 5 minutes, ari said, “i think my computer is broken”…
“which one?”
“the tower’”.
that means it’s our new G5 mac. oh no! that’s our bread and butter! that’s the main tool that we use to make money.
it basically went to sleep and refused to wake up. when we restarted the computer, it went as far as the gray start up screen, froze, and the computer shut itself down.
we searched and searched over the Apple site, browse through support area and the discussion forum, we couldn’t find the remedy. we saw a few similar problems, but unfortunately, there is no exact answer on how to fix it.
we went to a client meeting, leaving the computer unfixed, wondering what we’re going to do with it. after the meeting, Melvyn suggested that we should just wipe everything out and start over. it’s a new computer anyway, so there is not much stuff in it yet.
so we did. we really, really didn’t want to, but we had no choice. thereare piles of work waiting to be done ON that computer. we took an all-nighter, backed up everything, cleaned up the whole disk, did some disk partitions (which ari never had before, which then we realized how large the HD on that computer… yay! more storage for manga!), re-install the OSX, and went to bed at 6 in the morning.
we just turned the computer off, and hoping that tomorrow, it will finally turned back on, like a normal, functional computer.

good thing you didn’t have much stuff there, thal. whenever my pc is acting out, it scares the hell out of me. i’ve been backing up by burning a ton of cds. it’s not a good solution. i wonder…which one is better: buy an extra external hd or buy a dvd burner?
we’re also thinking of getting an external HD, since we have so much shit! we’ve been doing the same thing as you do, burning lots and lots of CDs… hee hee.

aku sekarang pakai 2 hardisk
satu 120gb sata buat storage
satu lagi 80gb buat system dan game.
mungkin lebih aman gitu.
beli external hardisk juga oke.
jangan lupa, file yang bener² mau diarchive, mending di burn ke dvd. jangan cd, cd lifetimenya masih kurang meyakinkan. kalau dvd pakailah yang gold.
tapi dote, G5nya ari tu 240gb isinya. rasanya kalo bli HD lagi, kayak waste HD segede gaban gitu… gue sih nyari HD buat mindah2in file dan buat nyimpen file sementara.
tapi bener juga sih, mungkin mulai sekarang bakalan bli DVD buat archiving stuff.
I hope you don’t have to miss your Mac for 2 weeks like I did… Darned lightning storm.
it looks like we’re going to miss it until at least the new year holiday is over. it’s still dead :(
