~ aina’s new play pants ~

26 July 2009

aina has been going to the playground almost everyday and always comes back with super dirty pants. she needs more pants. a pair (or many) of play pants, not a dressy one.

so yesterday, while ari, aina and koda are taking their afternoon nap, i took one of ari’s old tee-shirts that he doesn’t wear anymore, and whip up a quick-and-easy three-quarter pants for aina.

i was going to make it a drawstring pants, but realize that it will be a pain for her to wear it by herself. she doesn’t know how to tie strings, yet. so, elastics waist it is… (i ran out of the thick elastic bands, so the thin one will do for now).

if you want to make one for your kids, i find this tutorial really useful. it’s really easy to make. and you can adjust the length and the width of the pants. all you need is a tee-shirt that you don’t wear anymore and a pair of pants that your child is currently using (as a size and pattern reference). you can add trimmings and pockets, if you feel like it.

Aina looks comfortable in those pants.

the fabric is quite comfortable. it’s a little thick to wear as a t-shirt, especially here in singapore. but due to its thickness, it’s rather durable as play-pants material.
